Stunning Swedish Home

A lot of you will know that I have Finnish heritage, so it's probably not a surprise that I love Scandinavian Interiors.  The fresh white with pops of black and grey are a classic combination, and those Scandinavians know how to execute it.  How beautiful is this Swedish home?

Now, don't get me wrong, I love a bit of interior colour, but the simplicity of this home, and the minimal uncluttered feel is just beautiful, don't you think?
Would you be happy living in a Scandinavian Interior?

Light it up!

I was having a little online search for some lamps for a client of mine, when I stumbled across these gorgeous pendant lights from one of my favourite lighting suppliers.

It is so easy to become distracted in this industry... beautiful things everywhere catch your eye.

Coloured Kitchens

How do you all feel about bringing colour into your kitchen?  Would you? or Should you?
These days there is a definite trend in sticking with neutrals - Black, white and grey.  Although these colours are classic and will live on forever... I say bring on the colour!

If you're brave enough to decide you want some colour in your kitchen, an Interior Designer will help you choose colours that flow throughout your home, and they will also help balance them out with other neutrals.

Try sticking to one colour and add white or grey to freshen it up.  Have a look at a few examples here, don't they just look like happy kitchens?

How elegant is this Aqua kitchen? The Shaker style doors add a classic touch to an awesome kitchen.

Navy and white, a classic combination.  See how the darker colour is kept on the low cabinets, it keeps the kitchen looking spacious.

Soft pink, the colour of the year, teamed with grey, this is a soft and feminine look.

This Emerald green splashback makes me weak at the knees!

This gorgeous blue with white and brass is stunning.  I love the warmth of the timber and brass as it helps balance out the coolness of the blue and grey.

Have I convinced you?  Will you add a bit of colour and happiness into your kitchen?

Transformed family home

I was just flicking through some of my old projects, and felt like re-visiting one of my favourites from a couple of years ago. I just love the soft green on the walls and the super comfy sofa in this wonderful family room.  This beautiful family home used to be a display home, but with new paint colours, furniture, curtains, blinds, art and accessories throughout we completely transformed it into a very liveable home.

Bathroom Renovation

We're starting a new bathroom renovation at home this week.  It will most likely be a long project as we realistically only have weekends to work on it.  So for the moment we're now selecting paint colours, tiles, taps and basins.  I thought I'd put together a few favourite bathroom looks for some inspiration.

I love how light and bright this bathroom is, and how gorgeous are these floor tiles? I'm pretty certain grey and white will be our colour scheme.

The dark and moody feel in this bathroom is stunning.

Timber always looks lovely in a bathroom.  This bathroom has it perfectly balanced with white cupboard doors and a dark floor.

The green accent tiles just fit perfectly with this perfect view don't you think?

This cabinet is stunning, and I love the marble top.

Which look do you think we should go for?

Built-in shelving - the ultimate space saver

I've been looking into some built-in cabinetry ideas for a client of mine lately.  It's something that really needs to be thought through and designed specifically for your space.  Taking into consideration the style of room, the proportions of the room and what it is you're wanting to put on display and what you want to hide.

Here's a collection of some great built-in designs:

So modern and simple. The white lets the colours of the books, accessories and the floor rug really pop.

I love how they have painted the inside of some of the shelves in a different colour.  And it seems as if they have transformed an unwanted cupboard into open shelves for a reading corner.

A fabulous low built in cabinet in white lightens the space, while giving you some extra space to display art and accessories.

Practical use of the spaces beside the fireplace.

I love how these shelves are not only a part of the wall, but become part of the bed by acting as a headboard too.

Dark shelving on a light wall can add a bit of interest to an otherwise plain wall.  Loving that yellow sofa too!

Some more all white built in cabinets and shelves offer great space to display books and accessories while being able to hide away more mess.

Daydreaming...

I have a confession, it's a little obsession with black kitchen cabinets.  How stunning and dramatic do they look?  I particularly love them paired with marble and gold.  I would love to have them when we renovate our kitchen.

Stunning clean lines

Gold and marble accents

This modern industrial look is beautiful

And this classic look with that amazing window.

Welcome home!

Does your entry feel inviting when you enter?  Do you have a nice simple entry or is it the first place people leave all their everyday items? Need a little inspiration?

Some simple tweaks could easily make it the most inviting place in the house.  A little artwork, some clever storage and a fabulously bold burst of colour would transform what would normally be a boring thoroughfare or dumping ground.  Here are some of my favourite entries:

Great storage

Storage and a fun rug
A cute chair and a fabulous poster

Treating your Windows

Dressing a window can be a confusing thing.  Do you want curtains or blinds? What heading style do you want? What fabric? Do you need lining? What about rods or tracks?  Should the fabric skim the floor or puddle? Should the blinds be recess or face fixed? How do you make up your mind?

A lot of people hire Interior Designers just for this purpose, helping out with window treatments only.  It's a great idea to have someone professional to look at your windows and work out what style would suit them best. Not to mention they have a wealth of knowledge on different heading styles, track or rod options, and they have so many fabric options to choose from.  And... they have someone to install them all for you.  Brilliant!

Here are a few different curtain and blind styles to help you out:

Eyelet Curtains

Timber Shutters

Curtains with Roman Blinds

Inverted Pleat or Box Pleat Curtains

Soft Roman Blinds

Roller Blinds

S-Fold or Ripple Fold Curtains

What do you prefer?

Me? I'm definitely a curtain person.  I love the drape of the fabric, the texture, and the warmth it offers on a cold winters night, and of course the hiding places it offers during hide and seek.
